The exhibition dedicated to Witek Cichocki.

Witek was one of the people who quietly gave my photography a boost. Sometimes it was just a simple gesture, a few encouraging words, or a sign of appreciation at a time when I was only just beginning my journey as a photographer. Back then, it made me feel that I was heading in the right direction and that maybe something would come of it. Years later, I realise just how important it is to offer that kind of support to people who are creating something but still wondering whether it’s worth it.

On 3 June, the ZPAF Katowice Gallery will host the opening of a commemorative birthday exhibition dedicated to Witek Cichocki. The initiative was conceived by Beata Mendrek—thank you for inviting me to take part in the exhibition and to celebrate his memory.

You should know that Witek was a wonderful person, with a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh, a light-hearted approach to life, and endless gentleness and kindness. We met in 2002, and for almost ten years we saw each other mainly through the Gliwice Photography Group – during outdoor photo sessions, exhibitions, and various photographic projects. Those were wonderful years.

I hope to see you there!
