Hi, I am Joanna. I’m glad that you are here.
PORTRAYING
I have been involved in photography for 25 years, and professionally since 2006. I began my career as a photojournalist working for the Silesian press. For many years, I created photo reports from various events for business clients. I have also worked – in architectural and interior photography, capturing commercial properties for investors, developers, and architects.
However, portraiture is what I feel most connected to. There is something extraordinary about photographing people – that thread of understanding, the meeting, the process of getting to know one another in an atmosphere of mutual openness and trust. Whether I’m creating professional business portraits or personal portraits meant as keepsakes, I always focus on capturing the individual’s unique personality, character, and essence.
I love classic black and white portraits. I feel that between the shadows and the light, you can see more and look deeper.
Since 2012, I have been a member of the Association of Polish Artists Photographers. I develop my own photographic projects, have taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and enjoy participating in workshops. In 2010, I received a cultural scholarship from the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship for a project exploring post-war architecture in the cities of the Katowice agglomeration.
I usually work in my Portrait Studio in the center of Katowice.
WRITING
I’ve written quite a lot. In 2023, I started a blog where I regularly publish my texts. At first, I focused solely on photography, but over time I broadened the scope.
A turning point came during a period of professional burnout that lasted many months across 2024 and 2025. Unsure whether I would continue in my profession, I began writing a series of deeply personal posts on the topic (you’ll find them under the “burnout in freelancing” category). Writing turned out to be not only therapeutic for me, but also well-received by readers – which encouraged me to make it a regular part of my life. Not long after, my first external publications appeared (e.g. in Ślązag).
I write from experience – I’m a practitioner. In addition to posts about photography and the ins and outs of running a creative business, I also explore the psychological aspects of working with people – themes like self-acceptance and how we see ourselves. I’ve also started a series of personal essays – reflections on whatever’s currently bothering, blocking, irritating or inspiring me.
For the past year, I’ve also been working on a book. It’s a slow and uneven process – sometimes intense, sometimes not so much – but the story is gradually taking shape, and I hope one day it will see the light of day.

TEACHING
In the 2025/26 academic year, summer semester, I teach a commercial photography for second-year students of Photography and Visual Communication Creation at the Faculty of Arts of Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa.
I’m also a postgraduate student in the field of Photography in Therapy and Personal Development at the Akademia Górnośląska in Katowice. I want to further develop my skills related to conducting workshops and mentoring sessions.
I organise individual and group portrait workshops, and I also train people who work in various institutions and need to develop their photography skills.
I run development workshops based on my own programme, See Yourself Differently, enriched with phototherapeutic tools, giving participants the opportunity to look at themselves with a kind eye.
Almost 20 years of experience in the creative industry has given me a wealth of knowledge. I share this experience during individual mentoring sessions for photographers and other creative professionals.
You can find more information about workshops and mentoring sessions in this tab.
